Weddings
Here at St Mary’s we would be delighted to discuss with you what is involved for a church marriage, blessing or dedication. We are governed by regulations for marriage set by the C of E and it is necessary for a qualifying connection to the parish to be established.
You will need to show evidence of one of the following for the prospective bride or groom:
Lives in the parish; is on the church’s electoral roll; has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months; was baptised in the parish; was prepared for confirmation in the parish; has habitually attended normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months (this means you can build your own qualifying connection by coming along to church services for 6 months).
or
one of you or your partner’s parents (at any time after you were born) has- lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months; has habitually attended normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months.
or
One of you or your partner’s parents or grandparents was married in the parish.
To check if you live in the parish of West Chiltington you can enter your postcode into the following site and discover the parish in which you are resident. This should be the first thing you do before making an enquiry. Click here to find out.
If you would like to ask about marriage at St Mary’s, then contact our Parish Office in the first instance, where you will be advised of all the legal and residential evidence and identification you will need to provide and all the fees and charges. You will also be advised about availability of dates and a meeting will then be arranged for you to meet the Rector.
We shall also spend time discussing what marriage means as part of your Wedding preparation.
