Oh, oh, oh, what a lovely flower show!

I do hope that you had the opportunity to visit the wonderful flower show held last month at St Mary’s. It was a fabulous expression of the fusion of the creativity of human vision and artistic endeavour with the beauty, colour and floral diversity of nature.  It was so pleasing to see so many visitors over the 3 days of the event as well as  children from West Chiltington Community School popping down on our first morning for a special visit with their Head Teacher Mr Rose. If you missed it then check out some of  the photos on our website here.

Much thanks goes to the organising committee of Sue, Brenda, Andrea and Jean for all their vision and hard work, and to the scores of others involved from our main sponsor Nyetimber, to the stall-holders, those who sponsored and created the displays, through to those who helped with stewarding, refreshments, publicity and signage, raffle and prize donors, and  artists whose work was on display. Thanks also to those responsible for the sheer hard work of setting up and taking down gazebos and displays. It seemed very fitting that both Colin and Jo’s wedding and Rosie’s baptism were augmented by  the beautiful flowers that week in September.

I also want to thank those who loaned precious family artefacts, medals and photographs which helped represent the personal nature of family members who’d served in the First World War and also the RAF, whose centenaries were reflected as central to the theme of the flower festival which added a poignant dimension to our festival.

It is in events like these that you see the best of a church family that is at the heart of village community. A village we pray for, street by street, each week and that has welcomed Rosemary and me so generously into its life since we moved here  almost 6 months ago.

I made a link between some of the flower displays in my talk at the baptism service but I wonder what your own ‘faith picture’ could be? Check out the new Faith Pictures sessions running in November in our Church Hall and come and discover for yourself.

Every prayer and blessing
